We love this monitor. I bought it after reading all the reviews and it lives up to the hype. The sound is clear and I took the parent set all the way into the middle of the street during our block party and had great reception the entire time. There's never any interference from other electronics and I've never heard anything but my baby. The temperature monitor is a wonderful addition as our thermostat registers the downstairs temperature so the upstairs can either be too hot or too cold. I wish I could set the lower range of the temperature for hotter (our baby likes it quite warm) but that's my only complaint. I actually turn the volume down when I put it next to our bed at night because it picks up every little movement and it keeps me up at the highest setting.

The monitor is just great, its ultra sensitive, decent size, the hand held is small and portable. It is much smaller than it looks on the screen and it detects even really really low sounds and no interference. The music that it comes with is very nice and soothing

My wife and I just had our son and the monitor we had for our daughter was on it's last leg. We went to our local stores and checked out the monitors and got a Graco brand with two handsets the talkback feature and vibration. This set was TERRIBLE, we couldn't go down the hall or upstairs without it losing connection constantly and this was an expensive monitor and supposed to have a range of 200m. Our old monitor from our daughter always ended up getting static from all the wireless devices in our home and we wanted something solid, I started looking online when we got back from vacation and saw this Philips monitor but thought it was a little pricey for just a single monitor and put it to the side and did more research. The more I read online people loved this monitor but thought the price was a bit high at 119.99, so Amazon had it for 97 with free shipping. I jumped on it due to the reviews and figured I'd give it a chance.. boy am I glad I did. We have quite a few wireless devices in our home with our neighbor also having a wireless router and the audio is CRYSTAL clear. I can't believe it's honestly that clear. The whole unit is quite small which I was very surprised to see, the base unit has a spot for 4 AA batteries if the power goes out it also has built in music and it's quite good quality. There is a light on the base unit that's pretty dim for a dark room but I'm surprised to see that addition on there. I tested the range by carrying this with me when I brought out the trash and went over to the neighbors and not a single disconnection and still having no static or feedback. The talk feature is very nice and works extremely well and is crystal clear on the base too. Fantastic is all I can say.

This monitor is well well worth the money, it would be nice if there was a way to add an additional handset. I know the price is higher but trust me it's so worth the price!

Lacking features for the price August 24, 2010

We live outside the U.S., in country that uses 240 volt appliances. I purchased this baby monitor for the times that we visit the U.S. Regularly at home we use a BT 150 Digital baby monitor, also purchased from Amazon in the U.K. We love that monitor, and I was looking for something similar for use in the U.S.

I was looking for four features in particular:
1. Good sound detection and range
2. Shows the temperature in the child's room
3. Plays a lullaby
4. Talkback feature

The Phillips Avent baby monitor had these features but many times did not pick up the sounds of my daughter crying in her room. In addition, when compared to our BT baby monitor it sorely lacked features (and bear in mind they were about the same price). For instance our BT monitor has a torch (flashlight), remote turn on/off for the lullaby, shows the time, and has alerts for when the temperature falls out of a set range.

Overall I was quite disappointed in this monitor as it was expensive yet seemed to be very basic. I think there are better, more functional monitors out there and I wish I had done more homework before selecting this monitor.

Will never need to buy another monitor. August 22, 2010
Parent of two. Owner of many a monitor.
This is a wonderful monitor. Much better then the previous model. I had purchased the $115 dollar model, but when it arrived the parent unit was much to quiet could barely hear it over the fan in my room. Had to return it after using it for one night. This model is MUCH louder. No interference what so ever. Our other 900mhz monitors stopped working one night due to interference from something, this was a must have for us and it really paid off. The only problem I have would be the battery life on the parent unit. Have to charge about every other day.
