The Air Flow Sleep Positioner helps keep baby on her back or her side, the positions recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics to reduce the risk of SIDS. Two rounded frames providing support are hollow, allowing for the free flow of air. Adjust the self-fastener strips so that the positioner is just wide enough for baby to lie in. Place it in the crib, and lay baby down on her back or side, with the positioner placed below her arms. The soft fabric cover is comfortable and helps baby feel snug and secure. --Terri Shea

The product description for this item is misleading. While the American Academy of Pediatrics *does* recommend placing your baby to sleep on his back, the AAP does *not* recommend using sleep positioners. Sleep positioners pose a suffocation hazard. Having your baby sleep on his back reduces the risk of SIDS; having him sleep with a sleep positioner only increases his risk of suffocation. The safest crib is a bare crib-- that means no stuffed animals, no loose blankets, and certainly no sleep positioners!

I bought this out of desperation w/my fussy 5 week old who hates sleeping on her back in the bassinet so I tried to use this to prop her on her side. I have tried to use rolled up receiving blankets but they don't stay in place when she squirms around.

A lot of reviewers complained about the seam that the baby lays on and how it's too bumpy & uncomfortable to sleep on. They made it seem like there's a huge lump or something but in actuality, the seam is BARELY NOTICEABLE! especially if you've got your baby clothed & swaddled.

However, I do have some critcisms:
1) Awkward to place my baby in between the positioners w/o waking her up.

2) Must adjust positioners *BEFORE* placing baby in between the positioners and if you need to readjust, you can't do it while baby is in place -- not fun lifting baby in & out if you need to readjust for the perfect fit...

If everything is adjusted properly and you managed to get your baby in between w/o waking her, this positioner works great to provide firm support. I just wish it had some mechanism that allowed me to put baby down first and then slide the positioners to lock in place...
